After the Quake

Carl Minnemann / John Almeida

well the dust settles
on the little remains we have
ruined and rattled

yesterday's argument
seems so futile now
blood and money on the floor

on your knees
they're not wounded
for the trees
there's no forest

yet, it seems i'm still standing here
barren
forget all the words i can't hear
emptiness follows death

minimize connections
sever all your ties
never get hurt or alone

damage, control, resuscitate
after the quake

on your knees
they're not wounded
for the trees
there's no forest

yet, it seems i'm still standing here
barren
forget all the words i can't hear
emptiness follows death

again, now i can
i can still stand
without any hope
no one knows if i'll hang
is there enough
again, no i
i can still stand
without any hope
no one knows if i'll hang
is there enough rope?

yet, it seems i'm still standing here
barren
forget all the words i can't hear
emptiness
it seems i'm still standing here
barren
forget all the words i can't hear
emptiness follows death
